Investment Opportunities in Agriculture sector
The climate and topograph of Njombe region are suitable for growing a variety of crops. Investment should therefore focus on large scale farming of crops like maize, Irish and sweet potatoes, wheat, tomatoes, avocados, pineapples, water melon, tea and coffee. Supply of farm inputs at affordable prices such as fertilizers, insecticides, improved seeds and farm implements (i.e. tractors and power tillers) are other areas for investment.
Like in other rural areas of Tanzania, agriculture is the backbone of Njombe region. Most of farmers in the region are small scale growers of maize, Irish potatoes, beans and wheat being their main sources of both food and income. Tea is the main cash crop grown in large scale by foreign investors. However, the Regional encourages the investors to cultivate Avocado
The region’s land area of 2,129,900 ha is arable land. The share of arable land in the total land area of each district ranged from 60 percent in Wanging’ombe to 99.4 percent in Ludewa.
